Review:

Pros

Time travel! Time travel is one of my favourite elements of science fiction so naturally I was excited when I heard about this.
Adorable couple who never cease to make me smile
Amazing time period description, especially the Crimean War period, that was my favourite. It was so authentic.
It’s based in the future which is pretty damn cool, as always
Cool diagrams, illustrations, maps, emails, lists, they add an interesting aspect to the story.
Shocking twists and turns, that left me breathless with the anticipation for the SEQUEL!!

Cons
Absolutley none and that is a con in itself

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars. Everybody read this now or forever regret your choices.

Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider

Ollo everybody. Sorry I really haven’t been active for so long, since it’s almost summer I can get back on track with posts and reviews. Can’t wait to get through my mountain of books that need reviewing.

How did I get this? It was sent to me for review from Simon and Schuster. Thank you ❤

Synopsis:

At seventeen, overachieving Lane finds himself at Latham House, a sanatorium for teens suffering from an incurable strain of tuberculosis. Part hospital and part boarding school, Latham is a place of endless rules and confusing rituals, where it’s easier to fail breakfast than it is to flunk French.

There, Lane encounters a girl he knew years ago. Instead of the shy loner he remembers, Sadie has transformed. At Latham, she is sarcastic, fearless, and utterly compelling. Her friends, a group of eccentric troublemakers, fascinate Lane, who has never stepped out of bounds his whole life. And as he gradually becomes one of them, Sadie shows him their secrets: how to steal internet, how to sneak into town, and how to disable the med sensors they must wear at all times.

But there are consequences to having secrets, particularly at Latham House. And as Lane and Sadie begin to fall in love and their group begins to fall sicker, their insular world threatens to come crashing down.

Review:

I’m conflicted on this book, I loved the storyline and the characters but I really didn’t like the ending as much as the rest of the book.

The Characters:

I loved them all! Lane and Sadie were so cute, I ship them so hard now. Lane is very relatable, he’s a workaholic, he’s trying really hard to be normal but he’s confined and alone. Sadie is fabulous, confident and totally adorable. Nick is basically just a humourous alcoholic with a major Sadie crush. Marina is, actually she didn’t add much to the story so I don’t really remember her. Charlie was an emo musician who’s the sickest of the bunch. 4/5 stars for characters.

The plot:
As I’ve already mentioned I loved the first two thirds of the story but the third fell flat. I hated the ending, I was so angry that I almost threw the book across the room but I would never do that because I love my books so much. The writing was great and darkly funny, it made me laugh hysterically a couple of the times throughout the story. I enjoyed the alternating POV’s and was always hooked at the end of the chapter. 3/5 stars for plot.

My favourite quote:

“There’s difference between being dead and dying. We’re all dying. Some of us die for ninety years, and some of us die for nineteen. But each morning everyone on this planet wakes up one day closer to their death. Everyone. So living and dying are actually different words for the same thing, if you think about it.”

Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend you read it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hello, everyone. A quick post here, I’ve been focusing on some of my writing for the past month and I was wondering if you would like to read and follow. I write everything, I currently have a SciFi story going with over eight chapters, if you want to have a read of that. There is also another SciFi about superhero’s on there entitled Valkyrie. And a revenge thriller called The Falconry Revenge, these only have 1 chapter each. I am currently writing a modern-rewrite of Peter Pan as of tomorrow. I would love for you to read them and give feedback because I don’t get enough to motivate me to keep going. My username is CaughtInABLUR, http://w.tt/1CliUId
