Skink- No Surrender by Carl Hiassien

Hi…. BookNerds…. 🙂 This is a book I received for review last month from Fierce Fiction at Indigo Publishing.  Thank you for supplying me with this book.

Synopsis:

Classic Malley—to avoid being shipped off to boarding school, she takes off with some guy she met online. Poor Richard—he knows his cousin’s in trouble before she does. Wild Skink—he’s a ragged, one-eyed ex-governor of Florida, and enough of a renegade to think he can track Malley down. With Richard riding shotgun, the unlikely pair scour the state, undaunted by blinding storms, crazed pigs, flying bullets, and giant gators.

Review:

There was something weirdly hooking about this book, I didn’t think I would like the book because I don’t normally read humor and thriller books. I liked this one, I liked the modern references, talking about Instagram or Facebook, it made the book seem more real and modern. It was weird, it seemed unrealistic but realistic at the same time. I didn’t think a mum would let you go on the road with some weird old man who used to be a governor and sleeps in turtle nests. It was so weird that I liked it, I found it bizarrely enjoyable.

The writing was funny and descriptive, the characters quirky and down-to-earth. Skink is perfect for a YA book, being like one of those weird, let-you-do-anything uncles or grandparents, who provides you with stacks of money and helpful advice.

This book was a good mystery, comedy, thriller and YA then I recommend this book for you. I give this book 4 stars. Go find it in your nearest bookstore.

Thanks for reading.
