The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Sorry I haven’t posted in so long I’ve been on holiday to Atlantis for a couple of weeks. They have an awesome theme park there called Waves Of Atlantis’ Lost City. There was a huge roller coaster where you park your submarine on there and sends you off at high speed.

Anyway whilst I was there I read The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. It was another non-stop page turner. About 17 year old Veronica “Ronnie” Miller, a rebellious, angry teenager. After a string of wild, reckless, dangerous boyfriends and an arrest for shoplifting, her mother sends her and her brother Jonah to their Dad’s house in North Carolina. She arrives and estranges herself from her father, angry at him for leaving his family. He seems to play piano when she’s around, much to her anger. Ronnie’s forgotten past of the piano, playing non-stop before her father left, not accepting the esteemed invitation to Juliard. The summer starts out bad, she’s run into by a shirtless volleyball player called Will. She falls in love with him later on. She also meets Blaze ( really named Galadriel) another troubled teenager who’s mixing with the wrong crowd, they become friends. Blaze’s “Boyfriend” Marcus is a fireball juggler for money, breaks into peoples houses, and setting things on fire. He’s a bit of a pyromaniac. When Marcus makes a pass on Ronnie and she refuses, Blaze plants a stolen item from a shop in Ronnie’s bag and Ronnie gets arrested. Marcus becomes obsessed with Ronnie and kind of stalks her. Her dad doesn’t know what to do but gradually him and Ronnie become friends. But then something shocking happens and truths are uncovered and everything goes wrong. What will happen to Ronnie?

This was a great book. Light hearted, enjoyable read. It’s told from the point of Steve (dad), Ronnie, Will and Marcus. It was so easy to read, everything just flowed. The characters were so reletable and easy to understand. My favourite character was Steve he was the dad everybody wishes they had, he’s funny and can make you cry and intrigues your thoughts. A great Book recommended read!

My Favourite Quote:

I’m stuck babysitting turtle eggs while a volleyball player slash grease monkey slash aquarium volunteer tries to hit on me.” (Ronnie)
I’m not hitting on you,” he protested. (Will)
No?” (Ronnie)
Believe me, you’d know if I was hitting on you. You wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from succumbing to my charms.” (Will)
